“And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise.  The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.”  – Sylvia Plath

Writing Exercise: Rehash of the Past

writingreflections2

Life experiences present us with a full arsenal of writing topics. It’s just your job to fire off the artillery.

Brainstorm your list of accomplishments. List everything, even if you think it’s no big deal. For example, my list would include:

  • Graduating from high school and college
  • Becoming a published journalist
  • Writing two e-books
  • Bettering my relationship with my mother
  • Learning to better manage my Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Create an exhaustive list of all of your accomplishments in one sitting. Once you’ve completed your list of accomplishments, think about your journey to these accomplishments. What were some of your struggles? What were the times that you thought you were not going to make it? Were there naysayers along the way?

Focus on one accomplishment and write the complete back story.
