Why do you write? I’ve always been very curious about why other people write.
Personally, I write because I have to. I have been given a life sentence by the literary gods and have been condemned to a life of writing. A bit melodramatic, I know, but there is some truth there. Every single day, I think about writing. Even when I don’t want to, I still do.
A couple of years ago when I walked away from journalism, I vowed to myself that I would never write again. My goal was to switch careers and be done with the one that frustrated me as much as men. Well, I certainly haven’t given up men, and as you can see, I have not given up writing either.
During this writing hiatus, the ghost of my creative past began haunting me. At first it was soft whisper, but I simply ignored that. But just a few months, my urge to write became this loud, beating drum that pulsated through me first thing in the morning and until I shut my eyes at night. I told my friend about the drum, and all he had to say was, “yeah, you got it bad. And don’t tell anyone else you hear a drum.”
So what’s your story? Do you hear a whisper in your ear or a loud drum? Why do you write?
