Start a New Chapter

writingreflections5

Starting over can be the most frightening challenge a person ever faces. Waking up to find that life as you know it no longer exists or realizing an image of your future life has been erased.

At one time or another, we all have had to pick up the pieces and face an uncertain future.

WRITING EXERCISE:

Free write for 15 minutes about a time in your life when the earth shook, when you were in a position where something you relied on changed dramatically. This can be separation from a loved one, losing your job or realizing your life no longer works for you. Did you ever think you were going to get through it? How did you get through it?

If you are going through this situation now, write about how this makes you feel. Do you feel out of control? What can you control? How can you get out of this? What is the first step you need to take?

Resolution Solution

writing reflections new year resolution

The start of a new year prompts reflection of the past year and planning for the upcoming year. For me, 2009 was a period of tremendous emotional growth.

At the beginning of 2009, I deliberately set out to work on my emotional well-being.  I began researching, reading, meditating and most importantly, writing. I had no idea where any of this would lead me, but my quest for emotional wellness resulted in so many blessings it is almost incomprehensible.

I have a better understanding of myself, which has led to not only a healthier relationship with myself, but with my friends and family.

My sense of self has strengthened, allowing me to become more confident, self-aware and comfortable in my own skin.

I also discovered my true passion, enabling me to launch Writing Reflections. A website, blog, and e-book later, I have developed a creative outlet to fuel my passion for writing, but also to help others become better people and better writers.

At the top of 2009, I didn’t set out to do any of these things specifically. I just knew I wanted to be emotional well and was open to whatever form that would come in.

The truth of the matter is despite how much we plan to have the perfect body, get a new job, find a soul mate, and so forth, it rarely happens in a formulaic manner.

As conveyed in the today’s quote, my focus on change is what led to results. I did not enter 2009 with a picture of what emotional well-being would look and pursued it, I simply focused on change.

So now that 2010 is here, I encourage you to focus on positive changes, rather than a desired outcome, and I can assure you positive results will follow.
